2、est source for studies centering around the origins of poetry and literary devices, as well as the most significant literary classic for the research of ancient civilization because of their cultural accumulation. We can

3、 have a good understanding of ancient pendants based on a detailed reading of these two classics. For this reason, this thesis attempts to examine Chu Culture’s inheritance and development of Zhongyuan Culture by studyin

4、g the changing of pendants from central China to the South Chu, from Western Zhou Dynasty to the Spring and Autumn Period. After years of changing, Pendants have gradually become an important image in literary works, whi

5、ch has profound influence on the writings of the latter period. This thesis is composed of four parts. The first part verifies and explains those doubtful or even controversial pendants represented in Shi Jing and Chu C

6、i to clarify misunderstandings. The second part points out the symbolic meaning and cultural connotation of pendants and makes it clear that the pendant image of Chu Ci inherits, most importantly, innovates that of Shi

7、Jing by making comparisons between the pendant custom of Shi Jing and that of Chu Ci. The third part discusses the reason why pendant custom of Chu in Chu Ci inherits and develops that of the central China in Shi Jing a

8、s far as the historical, geographical, social and cultural factors are concerned. The fourth part analyzes the literary meaning of pendants of Shi Jing and Chu Ci, the importance of these pendant images, and their influ
